DANVILLE, Ind. – Many Hoosiers have already voted in this year’s election with early voter turnout seeing great success in the last few weeks.
On Monday, lines to vote in Hendricks County were much longer than anticipated.
Election 2024: Indiana’s Eighth Congressional District race
“[We’ve been waiting] about an hour and a half,” said Jeff Thomas, an early voter in Hendricks County. “We got here and they said it was a three-hour wait so I went ahead and went to Walmart and bought a camp chair so I wouldn’t have to stand and I could sit a little bit while I am here.”
Not only are voters surprised but the election staff is too.
“I mean it’s like 2020 all over again,” said Debbie Riley, the chief deputy of elections in Hendricks County. “It’s a huge turnout… They thought they would wait a little while but not this long. So far, they have been really nice, very patient, just standing in line chatting with each other. Some have children and they’ve been on the floor coloring.”
Hendricks County is not the only area experiencing long wait times.
