The beginning of the 2025 legislative session is months away, but the Indianapolis Public Schools district is already laying out a list of top priorities they will be advocating for at the statehouse.
The district made a list of six issues that they believe need to be addressed through legislation to benefit not just IPS students but students statewide.
“How can we put together a list of priorities that meets the needs of our students and families within IPS, but also looks a little broader and looks at the needs of the state,” said Rachel Santos, the district’s director of external affairs.
Santos created the list after talking to leaders across the district and asking about barriers to success and what they need to help students succeed.
The 2025 legislative session will begin in January and this year lawmakers will be approving the education budget for the next two years.
