Find out about some interesting places to visit in southern Indiana at parks program

This month’s Bedford Park Program will be a virtual tour of fun outdoor places to visit or things to do in Jackson and Washington counties. The program at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26, will be at the Otis Park Bath House. Janet Eger, with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, and Teena Ligman, retired from the U.S. Forest Service, will share some of their favorite outdoor places to visit.

“You don’t have to go far or spend much money to see something new or do something fun,” said Eger. She noted they looked for outdoor things that people or families could do in a day, close to home, that would provide good memories. Eger and Ligman included places people may not have known were close by.

Ligman said people don’t have to go far to visit some exceptional landmarks. As an example, the Medora and Shieldstown covered bridges are both in excellent condition. Designed by the same man, they have both held up well. The Medora Covered Bridge was built in 1875 and was the longest covered bridge in the United States. It is still in good condition and has a little picnic area next to the bridge.
