Yesterday, Sue Cahill, Representative in the Iowa House from Marshall County, led Iowa lawmakers in singing of the National Anthem. Cahill broke out in song when a bill that was proposed would have students to sing the national anthem every day in school. While Cahill led the representatives in song, she opposed the bill. Cahil says, “teachers have enough to do right now without adding another requirement to implement and then handle consequences if students don’t participate correctly.” If the bill passes teachers and students who object to singing the National Anthem would be required to stay silent and stand while others sing.
