February 2024 Weather Forecast Analysis For Iowa

January featured an arctic airmass and multiple plowable snow events which is another nailed forecast in the books. The February 2024 forecast is out at Iowa Storm Center with a mild start but transitioning back to below average with temperatures later in the month, so read on for the full details…

The month will set up like that of December 2023 with mild temperatures and then cooler later in the month. A split flow pattern will continue the trend of above average temperatures with below average precipitation next week (Jan. 27-Feb 3). Once the first full week of February hits, milder air will continue with snowpack to shrink drastically over the next 2 weeks. The pacific storm track will become more prevalent during week two and into the early part of week three with a couple warm/cold systems in this period and where we trend back to above average with precipitation. The first storm system for the month is Feb. 3-6th which does favor a round of stronger storms in the plains, specifically from Colorado/Nebraska and toward the forecast area. Rain/snow mix events and even thunderstorms will be with this pattern shift during the first half of the month.
