A bill in Iowa could require elementary school teachers to teach students how to read in a new way. Known as the science of reading, the idea was based on scientific evidence-based research. The method focuses on building five fundamental reading skills that kids need. Most schools teach kids to read with the three cues method, also known as MSV (Meaning, Syntax, Visual), relying on context clues and pictures instead of decoding words. The current bill would switch to the science of reading method, although some say it might not work for every student.
