ARL hosts “Out of Space” adoption fee weekend to place pets in homes

DES MOINES, Iowa – It seems that every story surrounding the Animal Rescue League of Iowa has one thing in common, the shelter is either at or over capacity. At times of mass intakes, the shelter is forced to get creative to help Iowa pets.

Now, the ARL is hoping to free up some space with an adoption event, with a lower fee. February 2-4, all dogs and cats six months or older have a lowered adoption fee of $40 at any ARL location. Typically, prices can range anywhere from $60-$200 dollars depending on the pets age. So, staff says this is a deal the public wont want to pass up.

“This is a great adoption fee for the amount of money we have into every animal,” Brian Madison, ARL customer experience manager, said. “By the time it hits the adoption floor, we have about on average $600 per animal by the time we spay or neuter it, have updated shots and dental work, all of that. It is a big expense, but we want to help the public out and offer a lower fee this weekend and hopefully get some pets in good homes.”
