The back half of the storm system will hit later this afternoon through tonight with severe weather in extreme eastern Iowa. This is a follow-up article to the final forecast posted yesterday, so read on for the details…
The current expectations are for clouds to thin out across eastern Iowa late this morning which will help boost dew points into the upper 40s to lower 50s in a narrow corridor. The focus spot will be along the frontal zone where severe storms will develop (3-6 PM) across extreme eastern Iowa into western Illinois with a cold core tornado event. All hazards including hail, gusty winds and an isolated tornado will be possible. The greatest tornado threat will be near the Iowa/Illinois border noted on the Iowa Storm Center Tornado Risk Model below where better dynamics are located with the system. All activity will shift east late this afternoon through the evening.
This is the final forecast for severe weather later today, so be prepared and have a way to get warnings should they be issued in your area.
