Siouxland teacher receives Iowa STEM Teacher Award

DENISON, Iowa (KCAU) — An elementary teacher in Denison has been recognized and named a recipient of the 2024 Iowa STEM Teacher Award.

Stephanie Prussing, educational technology instructor at Denison Elementary School, was honored with the award Tuesday, according to a release from the Iowa Department of Education. The award, sponsored by Kemin Industries, is given to six teachers each year who “go above and beyond to inspire student interest in and awareness of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.”

The release states that Prussing received the award for “her tireless efforts to promote computer science and technology instruction.” She does so through a variety of special classes and events. She also participated in a special mentorship program, helping other schools to implement computer science lessons.

On top of being recognized, Prussing will also receive $1,500 for use in the classroom and another $1,500 for personal use.
