Iowa National Guard helps alleviate effects of historic flooding in Siouxland

SIOUX CITY, Iowa ( KCAU ) — Iowa Air National Guard members with the 185th Air Refueling Wing joined debris cleanup efforts over the weekend in Sioux Rapids.

According to a release , members converged on the small town to help alleviate the effects of the historic flooding in June. Residents expressed appreciation for the members’ efforts.

“That actually brought tears to my eyes,” said local high school teacher Eric Boge. “It’s been helpful and a fast process with all you guys and many hands.”

Along with members from Sioux City’s 185th ARW, 30 members from the Des Moines 132nd Wing visited Sioux Rapids to help with cleanup.

The release specified that Iowa ANG Airmen are working in the affected areas of Woodbury, Cherokee, Ida, and Buena Vista counties.

The Air Guard’s state mission has prepared Debris Removal Teams with specialized personnel and tools to assist in debris cleanup. Additionally, they are working in conjunction with local civil authorities to ensure the safety of the public by cordoning off streets while airmen operate vehicles and equipment.
