Absentee ballot request form duplicates causing confusion for some voters

DES MOINES, Iowa — Absentee ballot requests have been available for voters to fill out for the past month ahead of the October 16 mail date for the ballots.

Both major political parties and third party organizations send a plethora of voting information out to voters, along with absentee ballot requests. One specific vendor for the Iowa Democratic Party sent out mailers that were having a difficult time getting processed by post offices.

A local voter reached out to WHO 13 News on Monday saying that she received another absentee ballot request form after sending in the first one from the Iowa Democrats. She was confused at first, but filled it out and mailed it in again. The new form said “You recently received an absentee ballot application from the Iowa Democratic Party. Due to new postal regulations, a first-class postage stamp was not sufficient to process the previous application.”

‘Short corn’ could replace the towering cornfields steamrolled by a changing climate

The Iowa Democratic Party said that the forms are being mailed out again to the same voters who received the first one to make sure those who want one can get an absentee ballot.
