First snow in 2025 will impact Thursday morning commute

The first snow of 2025 will fall in Iowa along I-80 during the morning commute on Thursday. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect starting at 3 a.m. and lasts until 3 p.m. This will be a fast-moving snow, with light and fluffy snow reducing visibility at times.

The snow will start falling in Western Iowa as earlier as 5 a.m. The heavy snow bands are setting up south of Highway 20 and along I-80. Most of the snow will be moving out by 3 p.m. at the latest. Some of the heaviest snow in the metro will fall around 9 a.m.
