A winter storm warning has been issued for the far southern tier of counties from 9 p.m. Saturday evening until 3 a.m. Monday. A winter weather advisory has been issued for areas along Highway 34.
We may see flurries and snow showers overnight, but accumulating snow will begin early Sunday morning and last into Sunday night. Travel will become very difficult in the far southern part of Iowa. Areas south of Iowa into Missouri will see even more snow and, farther south, ice.
Expected totals from the European model are below. The Des Moines metro area will see a dusting at best (and perhaps not even that), and areas north will see flurries.
In general, snow totals will be heaviest along Highway 2 and south. Lesser totals along Highway 34. The gradient from 9+’ of snow to an inch or so will only be about 45 miles wide. Winds will gust to around 25 mph or more, further reducing visibilities.
