BARTON COUNTY, Kan. (KAKE) – A central Kansas sheriff’s office is warning the public of recent jewelry scams in the area. The Barton County Sheriff’s Office says on Wednesday afternoon, deputies received a call of a theft that occurred on 281 Highway, south of Great Bend. Authorities say the victim was flagged down by a motorist who claimed to need assistance getting to New York. The motorist claimed he was broke and needed money for the trip. The motorist conned our victim into purchasing fake jewelry to fund his travels. The victim found out the jewelry was fake after the transaction.
