TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – Governor Laura Kelly has requested an extension for the major winter storm disaster declaration. According to the Kansas Division of Emergency Management, Governor Laura Kelly sent a letter to FEMA asking for an extension to submit a request for a major disaster. The letter asks for an extension to April 15, 2024, to submit a disaster request for a major winter storm that struck the state Jan. 7-16, 2024, which included heavy snowfall, excessive winds and extreme wind chills.
