Setup:

We’ll be tracking two low pressure systems to impact the region over the next few days, bringing rounds of storms. We’ll have dry time in between, but ingredients will be present for severe weather at some point each day. Moisture begins to surge in from the south on Thursday, allowing the atmosphere to become unstable. Instability is one ingredient we need for sustained severe thunderstorms. Two low pressure system work across the Plains into the Upper Midwest, the first bringing rain and storms between Thursday and Friday, and the second between Saturday night and Sunday.

Timing:

Ongoing showers and storms along a warm front lifting north across Mid-Missouri will keep the severe potential low on Friday morning, but there could be some embedded small hail along with lightning. Another round of scattered strong storms could develop along the cold front by late afternoon into the evening, bringing the threat of large hail and damaging winds through Friday night.
