Watch for blue-green algae at these Kansas lakes on the Fourth of July

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The Kansas Department of Health and Environment released its weekly blue-green algae advisory ahead of the Independence Day holiday on Wednesday.

The advisory added one lake — Gathering Pond in Geary County — to the watch advisory, while Lake Shawnee in Shawnee County was lifted.

The KDHE releases an updated advisory list every Friday as officials test lakes across the state for the harmful algae bloom. The advisory is split into three sections: Hazard, Warning and Watch.

So far, there are no active hazard advisories. There are three Warning advisories and six Watch advisories.

Here are the Kansas lakes under the warning advisory.

  • King Lake, Lyon County
  • Rooks Co. SFL, Rooks County
  • Webster Lake, Rooks County

Here are the Kansas lakes under the watch advisory.

  • Eagle Lake (Bel Aire), Sedgwick County
  • Gathering Pond, Geary County (Added July 3)
  • Harvey County East Lake, Harvey County
  • Lovewell Lake, Jewell County
  • Marion Lake (Reservoir), Marion County
  • Woodland Park Pond (Mount Hope), Sedgwick County
