Georgia man appears in Kansas Court on retail crime charges

(KOAM) – A Georgia man, Demetrius Odom, appeared in a Kansas courtroom Monday, facing charges of identity theft, criminal use of a financial card, and conspiracy, Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach announced.

Odom waived extradition to Lyon County, where he’s accused of stealing from multiple liquor stores with a co-conspirator.

This marks the first organized retail crime prosecution by the Attorney General’s Office under a new 2023 Kansas law.

Odom’s preliminary hearing is set for Oct. 21. His co-defendant, Dwayne Rhoden, remains in Kentucky, refusing extradition. Both men are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
