Kansas Task Force 1 continue work in wake of Helene

McDOWELL COUNTY, N.C. (KOAM) — Kansas Task Force 1 (KS-TF1) continues to support SAR (Search and Rescue) efforts in North Carolina in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.

After five days SAR in Florida KS-TF1 were reassigned, deploying to N.C. whey they are working northeast of Asheville, in mountain terrain.

The area is hilly and rugged, making search and rescue efforts more challenging. KS-TF1 has trained for these conditions and were able to use ropes to secure their footing while searching the hills.

There are three separate task force teams in the area working together operating both on foot and ATV.
