A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in Effect Until 11pm CDT

10/21/24 4:37pm ET

Good afternoon everyone. We are continuing to watch very closely our severe thunderstorm risk across parts of Kansas and Nebraska. As the afternoon has progressed, we have seen sunshine working the atmosphere, help create more instability.

This is turn has combined with upper-level energy to create some individual supercell storms that are nearing severe limits in central Kansas; drifting towards the Nebraska border. These storms have a history of large hail, frequent lightning, torrential rain, and locally damaging winds.

For this reason, the National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch until 11pm CDT across central Kansas, and also south-central Nebraska along the Kansas border. Look for locally severe storms, with also the risk of an isolated strong tornado this afternoon and evening.
