Weather Alert station in western Kansas to shut down

ULYSSES, Kan. (KSNW) — The National Weather Service says starting Dec. 31, a National Weather Service NOAA Weather Radio All Hazards transmitter will permanently shut down.

Station WXN81 in Ulysses, which operated at 162.450 Megahertz, will cease to operate. The station provided weather information, including watch and warning alerts 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to weather radios and was part of a network of over 1,000 transmitters in all 50 states operated by local National Weather Service Offices.
