Kansas’ sales tax on food drops to zero on Jan. 1

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – With a new year comes another reduction on grocery receipts for Kansas shoppers. The state’s portion of the sales on grocery bills drops to zero on Jan. 1, 2025, meaning any tax tacked onto your total grocery bill will be local, levied by counties or cities. The elimination of the state’s sales tax on groceries completes a three-step reduction, including a drop from 4% down to 2% on Jan. 1, 2024.
