Kentucky in D.C.: McConnell says Harris-Walz win would be ‘our worst nightmare’

Welcome back to Kentucky in D.C. — a look at what members of our state’s federal delegation have been up to.

Federal lawmakers may have an August break from votes on the floor. But that didn’t stop them from making their thoughts known.

To start, Louisville held this year’s National Conference of State Legislators Legislative Summit, and Sen. Mitch McConnell gave the keynote speech at its Republican breakfast.

Here are some takeaways from McConnell’s address:

McConnell blasts Democratic party and Harris-Walz ticket

McConnell said “our worst nightmare” is if Democrats win the White House in November.

His comments followed Vice President Kamala Harris’ announcement that she’d selected Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate — with McConnell saying the ticket represents the “far-left” side of the Democratic Party.

If voters end up sending the Harris-Walz administration to the White House, McConnell said he thinks Democrats will:

  • Try to get rid of the filibuster
  • Create two new states: Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico
  • And pack the Supreme Court with liberal-leaning judges
