Kentucky State Fair is right to include out-of-state entrees. Cake contest winner is valid

After reading a couple complaints about the winning entry in the My Favorite Cake contest coming from an Ohio resident, I felt the need to respond. The Kentucky State Fair sets the rules and there are no rules excluding out of state entries.

In the past, one woman from Indiana won the My Favorite Cake category. As far as those saying all entries should come from Kentucky residents, I disagree. What if the Kentucky Derby, made a new rule, that only horses from the state of Kentucky could enter the race? What if the the Indianapolis 500 only allowed entries from the state of Indiana? If these folks are so upset because an out of State entry won the prestigious My Favorite Cake blue ribbon, they should contact the Kentucky State Fair board of directors.

The rules can be changed so only Kentucky residents can enter anything in the Kentucky Fair. My guess is, that might have some negative impact on Fair attendance and general acceptance from residents from Ohio and Indiana. As a resident of Ohio, I hope we allow out-of-state entries of cakes, livestock, produce, quilts and all categories in the Ohio State Fair.
