Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear to speak on opening night of DNC

FRANKFORT, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — Democrats nationwide are in Chicago this week as the party formally nominates Vice President Harris for her White House run. Gov. Andy Beshear will be delivering remarks on the opening night of the convention, and those in Kentucky’s delegation are excited about the spotlight.

“You know, we started at 7:00 in the morning, so we’re still going,” Fayette County Attorney Angela Evans told FOX 56, describing the overall event as “exciting.”

For political nerds, the conventions can easily be compared to the Super Bowl. After Republicans had their week to celebrate, now it’s the Democrats’ turn. And on opening night the nation is hearing from a face already very familiar to the Bluegrass.

“So we’re all very excited that he is helping to kick off this convention, and we just could not be more proud,” State Rep. Cherlynn Stevenson (D-Lexington) said.

This is the first DNC for Stevenson and Evans, who are both serving as delegates this year. Not only are they excited about the experience overall, but with Kentucky in the spotlight, it’s extra special.

“People know Andy Beshear here. And when they hear Kentucky, they know it’s Governor Beshear and they’re excited about it,” Evans said.
