The National Weather Service cautions that heat index values could soar up to 104°F this afternoon, creating a serious risk of heat-related illnesses.

Heat Advisory in Effect from Noon to 8 PM Today

The advisory will be active from noon until 8 PM EDT today, affecting numerous cities including Charleston, Huntington, Gallipolis, and Parkersburg. Residents are urged to take all necessary precautions to avoid heat-related health issues.

“Hot temperatures combined with high humidity can lead to heat exhaustion or heat stroke, particularly in vulnerable groups like the elderly and young children,” the advisory emphasized. The National Weather Service recommends drinking plenty of fluids, staying in air-conditioned environments, and avoiding direct sunlight during peak hours.
