Kentuckians fight with everything we have to provide the best life possible for our kids. I know that because I am one of those parents who has been fighting for years. When my children were facing bullying and bad influences in their assigned public schools, I found a better option in a local private school − but finances were a problem. That’s why I became an advocate for passing school choice in Kentucky for the first time.
We were so happy when Education Opportunity Accounts passed in 2021, but our joy was short-lived when opponents of the bill filed a lawsuit against it. I was proud to be a plaintiff in that lawsuit. We even took my fight to the Bluegrass State’s supreme court, which unfortunately relied on our outdated state constitution to end the program and my family’s chance for options.
My quest to free students from failing public schools now lies in voters’ hands.
The best educational option for my youngest child is a private school. Like thousands of other Kentucky families, we needed the help of Kentucky’s Educational Opportunity Account program to afford tuition. I do not come from a wealthy family, and I struggled and was failed often in my own educational journey. Like any parent, I want to provide better for my children without having to pack up and move out of state − or hope the public schools eventually come through for us. We don’t have time to wait.
