Severe weather hits West Virginia, Ohio and Kentucky with ice, power outages

CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) – Snow, ice and freezing temperatures are hitting the Tri-State hard. West Virginia Governor Jim Justice and Kentucky Governor Andy Besehar have declared states of emergency and several Ohio counties are under snow level emergencies.

Just as our StormTracker 13 team predicted, many folks woke up to an icy mess Monday morning, and it’s not finished yet.

Snow impacts in West Virginia, Kentucky and Ohio

There are still around 38,000 people in West Virginia still off the grid, but the number could rise with expected ice accumulation Monday night. But, crews have been out Monday to get power restored to as many people as possible.

“It happens every year. Either wind, rain, or something like that will knock a tree down in the holler. It’s just a waiting game. Waiting your turn in line until they get done. You never know what you’re going to get until you watch the news and find out – 13 News,” said Alum Creek resident Richard Miller.
