Saltwater intrusion threat to southeast Louisiana is over — at least for now

The threat of saltwater contamination in southeast Louisiana drinking water plants is officially over – at least for now, according to the Army Corps of Engineers. Repeated rainfall in the Midwest and along the Ohio River have increased flows in the lower Mississippi, pushing the wedge of salt water back towards the Gulf of Mexico. The last water intake that was still threatened by saltwater intrusion in Boothville, in lower Plaquemines Parish, is now in the clear, the Corps said Thursday.
