There’s a good chance Southwest Louisiana will receive 1-2 inches of widespread rainfall most of Saturday — with a few locations seeing as much as 3 inches.
Cameron Kowalski, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service’s Lake Charles office, said there’s also a low chance for isolated or scattered showers on Sunday.
The rainfall is set to begin at midnight, increase in frequency about 6 a.m. through noon on Saturday and then taper down around 6 p.m.
Kowalski said there is also a marginal risk for an isolated severe thunderstorm or two and southeast wind of about 10-15 mph.
With wet soil conditions and above-normal streamflows around the region, flood sensitivities will be slightly elevated, Kowalski said.
Temperatures Saturday will be in the mid-60s Saturday and could reach as high as 70 on Sunday.
Kowalski said while the area should dry out briefly early next week, the precipitation outlook ahead for Feb. 7-11 has shifted from slightly below normal precipitation toward normal/slightly above.
