Heavy rainfall expected this week over several days

A tropical disturbance is expected to move across the southwest Gulf this week, according to the National Hurricane Center.

The NHC forecasted a broad area of low pressure to form early next week and said a tropical depression could form by mid-next week.

At 8 a.m., the NHC said the chances of tropical development within the next seven days are 50%. While formation chances are near 0% in the next 48 hours.

Regardless of development, heavy rainfall is expected across southeast Texas and southwest Louisiana from Sunday through mid next week. While this is a multi-day event, higher totals are expected Tuesday night to Wednesday morning.

Higher-than-normal tides and breezy conditions are also anticipated. The National Weather Service Lake Charles said some coastal flooding is possible.
