Citing state’s academic gains, lawmakers approve raise for Louisiana’s education chief

Lawmakers are giving Louisiana’s top education official a raise, citing the state’s academic gains in recent years. During a meeting Friday, the Joint Legislative Budget committee voted unanimously to renew State Superintendent of Education Cade Brumley’s contract and increase his yearly salary to $311,000 – a $26,000 pay raise. The vote came after the state’s Board of Elementary and Secondary Education, which hired Brumley, recommended earlier this year that he receive a salary increase.
