Heavy Rainfall Expected From Tropical Storm

According to the National Hurricane Center, a system that is currently around 500 miles south of Port Arthur, Texas, has been upgraded to a Potential Tropical Cyclone Six.

Coined with the name Francine, it is expected that the system will become a tropical storm tomorrow. The storm is expected to intensify on Tuesday, and the the NHS is currently forecasting it as a category one hurricane by the time it hits landfall on Wednesday.

It is expected to land over Southwest Louisiana and will likely bring 2-5 inches of rain to some parts of the state from Wednesday night into Friday.

Additionally, there could be a threat of tornadoes over parts of the state on Thursday.

The National Weather Service in Jackson, says that parts of Mississippi can expect very heavy rainfall associated with a potential tropical cyclone could lead to flash flooding and minor river flooding Wednesday & Thursday night.
