U.S. marshal serving East Texas region announces retirement

TYLER, Texas ( KETK ) — Starting his career in Louisiana in 1987, U.S. Marshal John Garrison is ready to close the chapter of serving the nation.

A volunteer fire department is declining its contract with Smith County ESD2, here’s why

Garrison would make a breakthrough into the U.S. Marshal’s Service in the 1990’s and spend his entire federal career in the Tyler area.

“It’s the greatest place to work ever, the eastern district has the best judges. We got the best personnel across the district,” Garrison said.

Throughout his career he traveled for special assignments around the country and overseas, including a six month assignment in Iraq, an unforgettable experience.

During his time as a marshal, Garrison also met Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, getting advice from one of the top figures his department is tasked to protect.

“He actually spent 15 to 20 minutes talking with my daughter and her friend back when he was visiting,” Garrison said. “So even though, he’s a super busy man, he does take time to share his wisdom with the youth.”
