Louisiana voting advocates talk voter registration as deadline nears

HARVEY, La. ( WGNO ) — Louisiana residents have very little time left to register to vote in the upcoming election.

Voting advocates want you to know the key policies and the importance of your vote by Nov. 5.

“We want everybody to know that every vote is important in every election, even on the parish level, it’s important. But we also want the constituents in the community to come out to be educated about some of the issues in this key race,” said Co-chair of Voter Education and Engagement Community at St. Joseph the Worker Church Shewayn Watson.

According to the Louisiana Secretary of State’s Office, the deadline to register in person or by mail to vote is Monday. However, voters can still register to vote online until Tuesday, Oct. 15.

State Senator Patrick Connick says this is not an opportunity you should pass on but participate in.

“We have a right to vote. Don’t waste it because, you know, if you can vote, go vote. I don’t care who you vote for but exercise your right to vote to make our area better. Our state is better, and our country is better,” said Connick.
