Tropical depression could form in the Atlantic Ocean later this week, NHC forecasters say

A low-pressure system in the central tropical Atlantic Ocean could strengthen into a tropical depression late this week, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami. Located several hundred miles west of the Cabo Verde Islands, the system was producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms over open waters, forecasters said in a 7 a.m. update. The likelihood of development in a couple of days is low, meaning 10%, as the system continues to churn in a dry environment. But forecasters said that gradual development mid-to-late week is possible as it moves westward toward warm waters.
