BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A proposed bill that aimed to increase taxes on sports betting was withdrawn Monday during the Louisiana Legislature’s third special session.
House Bill 22 , authored by Rep. Roger Wilder III (R-Denham Springs) was withdrawn from the House of Representatives on Monday. The bill would have increased current tax rates on sports wagering from 15% to 51%.
This bill would have affected electronic sports wagering on websites and mobile applications.
According to a study , Louisiana is one state that saw an increase in sports betting tax revenue from 2022 to 2023. Louisiana saw a 29.5% increase in sports betting tax revenue, going from $34.2 million to $44.3 million.
