Meta Announces $10 Billion AI Data Center in Louisiana’s Richland Parish

Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has unveiled plans to construct a $10 billion Artificial Intelligence (AI) data center in Richland Parish. This transformative project marks one of the state’s largest-ever private capital investments.

The facility will be built on the former Franklin Farms site, located between Rayville and Delhi. Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry joined Meta officials on Wednesday, Dec. 4, to announce the initiative. Landry highlighted the project’s potential to revolutionize the region’s economy and technological landscape.

“In the world of technology and innovation, we now announce the Meta Artificial Intelligence Optimized Data Center,” said Landry, emphasizing its significance in delivering high-paying jobs and economic development to Northeast Louisiana. Landry also credited former Congressman Ralph Abraham for his collaborative efforts in identifying Richland Parish’s potential for such a venture.

Economic and Workforce Impact

During the peak of construction, the project is expected to employ 5,000 workers on-site, creating a substantial boost for the local economy. Once operational, the state-of-the-art facility will demand advanced power infrastructure, spurring Entergy to develop new power plants to support the center’s energy needs. Meta has committed to offsetting its energy consumption with renewable sources, aligning with its sustainability goals.
