Landry declares period of mourning for Bourbon Street victims

Louisiana will observe two weeks of mourning in tribute to the 14 people who died in Wednesday’s terror attack on Bourbon Street.

Governor Jeff Landry signed an executive order on Friday ordering all state buildings to fly their flags at half-staff from January 6 to January 10 and again from January 13 through January 17, with each day dedicated to a specific victim. In a statement issued by a Landry spokesperson, the governor will amend his executive order to add more days of mourning once all 14 victims’ names are announced.

On Friday, the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office released the names of 12 of the 14 victims. The coroner withheld the name of one victim, a British citizen, at the request of that person’s family as they continue to make arrangements. The final victim still has not been identified.

“Louisiana will never forget the 14 innocent lives lost and the horrific scenes of January 1,” Landry said in the statement. “However, Louisiana and her people will never cower in fear. Instead, we will unite and come back stronger in honor of every person who lost their lives that day.”
