Bitter cold conditions to stick around through weekend

Keep your coats, scarves, and hats nearby because the cold weather will be sticking around until the weekend.

Bitterly frigid conditions will blanket southern Louisiana, with temperatures today, tomorrow, and Thursday topping out in the mid- to upper-40s. Hard freezes are expected over the next few mornings on the Northshore, so keep your pipes, plants, and pets protected. Temperatures on the Southshore will approach the freezing point, but you shouldn’t have to worry about your pipes. However, protect sensative vegetation and your pets.

Rain enters the forecast on Friday, with an 80-percent chance of precipitation to end the work week. Some of those showers could be heavy at times. That rain will usher in another cold blast, with overnight lows on Friday and Saturday dipping into the low- to mid-30s on both sides of the lake.

Temperatures will begin to rise in earnest on Sunday into Monday.

TUESDAY:
AM hard freeze north. Light freeze west and south. Mostly sunny and cold. Breezy. High: 47. Winds: N 10-15 mph.
