Maryland’s Governor Wes Moore has allocated $90 million from the Strategic Energy Investment Fund (SEIF) to support the state’s climate agenda. These funds, previously unallocated, will be part of the FY2025 budget proposal. The goal is to further the Climate Solutions Now Act and the Maryland Department of Environment’s Climate Plan, aiming to improve Maryland’s competitiveness.

Governor Moore stated that the $90 million is a significant step towards sustainability. He highlighted the importance of a future with cleaner air, a resilient energy grid, and a transition to clean energy that benefits all.

The FY2025 budget proposal of the Moore-Miller Administration includes over $300 million for clean energy initiatives. The administration aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 60% by 2031 and achieve 100% clean energy by 2035. At least half of the funding will be used to support underserved communities.

The funding will be divided among three initiatives: $17 million for electric school bus grants; $23 million for electric vehicle charging infrastructure grants in low and moderate-income communities; and $50 million for grants to electrify community buildings.
