WALTHAM, Mass. (WWLP) – A new plan has been submitted by National Grid to meet Massachusetts’ nation-leading climate change, clean energy, and equity goals. This plan is known as the Electric Sector Modernization Plan, or also called the ‘Future Grid’ plan.
It has been submitted to the Department of Public Utilities (DPU) outlining the critical investments needed in Massachusetts’ electric distribution system over the next five and ten years to meet its nation-leading renewable energy, climate change, and equity targets. As a result of electrifying heating and transportation, the proposed investments in the plan will be essential to meeting the electric demand that is expected to almost double by 2050.
As a result of the plan, the electric distribution grid will be upgraded and expanded, reliability will be guaranteed, more solar, storage, and electrified heating and transportation will be connected, smart customer choices will be empowered, and a just and equitable transition will be made from fossil fuel-based economies. According to the plan, National Grid is committed to providing a fair, affordable, and clean future for its customers while meeting the goals set forth in the state’s 2050 Clean Energy and Climate Plan (2050 CECP).
