Second Mass. State Police trooper dishonorably discharged for alleged role in CDL bribery scheme

Authorities issued another dishonorable discharge to a Massachusetts State Police Trooper Tuesday for his alleged role in conspiring to issue commercial driver licenses to unqualified applicants in exchange for personal kickbacks, including a $10,000 driveway makeover, free snowblowers, high-end bottled water, and cases of coffee and tea.

Trooper Joel Rogers, 54, of Bridgewater, retired from the department effective Tuesday after being suspended without pay since last month, according to a state police spokesperson.

Sergeant Gary Cederquist, 58, of Stoughton, was dishonorably discharged after retiring from the state police last week, police spokesperson Dave Procopio said.

A grand jury returned a 74-count indictment charging troopers Cederquist and Rogers, as well as retired troopers Calvin Butner, 63, of Halifax, and Perry Mendes, 63, of Wareham, with conspiracy, extortion, mail fraud, false statements, and falsifying records, Joshua S. Levy, Acting United States Attorney for the District of Massachusetts, announced during a news conference at federal court in Boston
