Governor Healey invests $50M into EV charging infrastructure

BOSTON (WWLP) – Governor Healey announced a $50 million investment into electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

The ARPA funds have been dedicated to creating new charging stations and improving current ones working to make more state vehicles electric and incentifying ride-share drivers to go electric.

A total of $12 million will go to installing curbside chargers in urban communities and apartment complexes, $9 million will go to creating heavy-duty charging stations, and $8 million will go to electrifying ride-share and taxi services. The rest goes to stations at state buildings and other E-V stations around the state.

Electric Vehicle Curbside Parking for Residents in Multi-Unit Dwellings – $12.5 million

MassCEC will work to help municipalities expand access to EV charging for residents with limited access to home charging, particularly in environmental justice and urban communities. Pole-mounted and streetlight chargers represent a promising strategy to use existing assets to expand access to curbside charging, but this potential is limited by barriers such as regulatory hurdles, complex ownership structures and unclear business and financial models.
