Task force formed to combat animal cruelty in western Mass.

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – The Northwestern District Attorney’s Office is leading an effort to strengthen the work of animal welfare professionals in Hampshire and Franklin Counties.

Animal cruelty is unfortunately something that occurs everywhere, including right here in western Massachusetts.

22News spoke with William Loisell, an animal cruelty officer from the ASPCA about his experiences, “Abandonment of animals without care, failure to provide proper food water and care, proper shelter, and also direct intentional abuse tormenting,” Loisell said. With pets and animals receiving this callous treatment far too often, it aims to strengthen animal welfare, especially locally. That’s why the Northwestern DA’s office has come together with organizations like the ASPCA to create an animal welfare task force.

The Northwestern District Attorney’s office covers 47 different communities, many of which don’t have full time animal control officers, meaning many of the animal welfare cases don’t get the attention they need.
