New Bedford man wins $4M lottery prize while getting birthday present for friend

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WWLP) – A New Bedford man has won the $4 million prize in the Massachusetts State Lottery’s “$4,000,000 Monopoly Doubler” $10 instant ticket game.

New Bedford resident wins $1 million lottery prize

According to the Massachusetts State Lottery, Robert J. Ostrye Jr. chose the cash option and received a one-time payment of $2,600,000, before taxes. He said he plans on doing some home renovations and helping others with his prize money.

Ostrye Jr. purchased his winning ticket at Jay’s Wine & Spirits in New Bedford while getting a birthday present for a friend. The retailer will receive a $40,000 bonus for its sale of this ticket.
