Audit finds mismanaged COVID-19 business grants

BOSTON (WWLP) – A recent audit of a state agency uncovered the mismanagement of COVID-19 small business grants.

State Auditor Diana DiZoglio’s Office released an audit of the Massachusetts Growth Capital Corporation Wednesday.

The agency works to connect lending institutions or organizations to finance projects that produce jobs in distressed communities. The audit revealed that the corporation gave out grants in excess of amounts allowed by their contract, as well as provided grants to ineligible businesses.

The agency indicated that it will work to improve the areas identified by its audit.
