AGAWAM, Mass. (WWLP) – With the number of mosquito-borne illnesses cases in New England and here in Massachusetts on the rise, it’s important to protect yourself from being bitten.
Cases of West Nile Virus and EEE continue to be reported as the mosquito season continues, so it’s important to take precautions.
At Rocky’s Ace Hardware in Agawam, they’ve seen an increase in the number of people coming in looking for things that will help keep mosquitoes away.
Bob Parent with Rocky’s told 22News, “We’ve had people coming in looking for your sprays with the deet. We’ve had them looking for the citronella oil and the wicks for the candles yes.” You can also get Mosquito dunks that you can place in standing water, which is a prime breeding spot for mosquitoes.
There are also some things you can get to help prevent mosquitoes from coming into your yard. “For your yard, you can also use your foggers and hose end sprayers, spray your grass before parties to keep the mosquitoes and the bugs down,” Parent adds. You can also get special citronella tiki torches that you can use to help keep the mosquitoes away.
