PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Authorities have charged several Rhode Island and Massachusetts residents for their alleged involvement in illegal cockfighting events that took place in Providence more than two years ago, 12 News has learned.
Miguel Delgado, Onill Vasquez Lozada, and Antonio Ledee (A.L.) Rivera, all from Rhode Island, along with Mass. residents Gerdimez Kingsley Jamie, Jose Rivera, and Luis Castillo, are accused of participating in cockfighting events on Feb. 25 and March 6, 2022.
Court documents obtained by 12 News showed the events were allegedly held at Delgado’s home in Providence. Delgado is accused of owning birds specifically bred for fighting, as well as possessing, sponsoring, and exhibiting them at both events. He is also charged with buying and selling sharp tools, known as gaffs, that were used in the fights, according to the court documents.
Lozada and A.L. Rivera are charged with owning and exhibiting birds for fighting purposes, while Jamie and Jose Rivera are accused of bringing gaffs to the March 6 event. Castillo is also charged with possessing and exhibiting birds at that fight.
