Early voting begins Saturday in Massachusetts. Here’s everything residents need to know

The 2024 presidential election is fast approaching and Massachusetts residents can begin casting early ballots in person beginning on Saturday.

Early voting for Needham residents kicked off at 9 a.m. Saturday as dozens of residents filtered in and out of town hall exercising their right to vote ahead of the Nov. 5 general election.

“It’s the most important thing in the world to make sure that you vote and your you know putting forth your views and making sure that the right candidates win,” said Jim McInerney, of Needham.

Fellow Needham resident Tara Cardozo added, “I’m anxious to get my vote in.”

Secretary of the Commonwealth William Galvin said he’s encouraged by the response so far to vote by mail

“We put over 1.3 million ballots out in the hands of voters already and we’ve gotten back over 400,000 so far,” Galvin said.

Galvin said early voting in Massachusetts started in 2020 because of the pandemic and 3.6 million people voted in the presidential election. He said he expects a similar turnout with this election with a third of people voting early, a third voting by mail, and a third casting ballots on election day.
